The Micah Institute at New York Theological Seminary is an educational center that equips people of faith to fight poverty and injustice.
Hours: Part-time (20 Hours per week)
Salary: Stipend
Start Date: Monday January 31, 2011
Education: Master’s Degree candidate, M.Div candidate preferred; some experience in research and organizing; Fluent Spanish.
Job Description: As Cesar Chavez said: “From the depth of need and despair, people can work together, can organize themselves to solve their own problems and fill their own needs with dignity and strength.” In the Spirit of Chavez, we are in search of a faith-rooted organizer to reach out to the Latino/a community on behalf of the Living Wage NYC Campaign. We would like a highly motiivated and organized individual with a prophetic theological imagination and strong outreach skills.
- Conduct outreach to religious leaders through phone calls, emails and personal meetings
- Maintain and update a database of religious leaders and scholars
- Participate and keep notes on conference calls
- Write letters, blogs and action advisories in Spanish
