Going Home: Jesus, Race and Gender Justice

Spring Break Class to the South open to Alumni/ae

April 5-11, 2010

If you failed to take this course when you were in school, I recommend that you join Drs. Eleanor Moody-Shepherd and Peter Heltzel, on this ground-breaking journey.

When Martin Luther King, Jr. graduated from Boston University he had opportunities all over the country, but he decided to return home to the South because of the “remarkable thing that was about to namely the Civil Rights movement. Through identifying the tragic violence and  oppression of racism, while also tapping into the sources of redemption, reconciliation, and empowerment, the Civil Rights movement demonstrates the tensions within Southern religion. This year our class will focus on the prophetic action of African American women like Ella Baker, Septima Clark, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Rosa Parks. African American women’s leadership represents a holistic model of prophetic ministry.

Join this unforgettable week long field trip into the heart of the Deep South, which will include visits to Montogomery and Selma, Alabana and Vicksburg, Jackson, and Canton, Mississippi, and Memphis, Tennessee. Don’t miss it!
