Dr. Jerry Reisig to Retire as NYTS Professor

Dr. Jerry Reisig is the calming presence of New York Theological Seminary. A fixture in student life and resident bibliophile. He is one of the first people a new student meets at the beginning of their first semester. He greets everyone with a reserved demeanor, wisdom and intellect that assures everyone, everything will be alright. He can often be heard asking prospective students “Why NYTS,” his thoughtful inquisition recognizes and establishes him as the person who attempts to see students holistically.

As native of Lyman, a small Nebraska town with a population of 400, he’s a long way from his birthplace having spent over twenty years working in computing and networking support both for manufacturers and large law firms. Dr. Reisig is a graduate of SUNY at Stony Point (BA), holds a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from New York Theological Seminary.

His combined technical knowledge with theological training created a paradigm of library services in which access and navigation to information are essential the success and education of students and practitioners of urban ministry in the 21st Century.

He’s also taught basic and advanced Greek and Greek exegesis. His book,  Access: Unlocking the Power of Research: A Guide to Library Services and Information Literacy, remains an essential resource for all NYTS students.

As a member of the Religious Society of Friends, he believes that the ability to access, navigate, discern and include information reflect the Quaker Testimony of Justice.

With his impending retirement New York Theological Seminary will not be the same, he has left an indelible mark. His impression and spirit will remain always with us. Thank you Dr. Reisig!
