United Negro College Fund announces new scholarship
UNCF, the United Negro College Fund, is pleased to announce an amazing new scholarship opportunity for college students living in New York City. The Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation has made a $1,000,000 grant to UNCF in response to the economic effects the pandemic and racial injustice policies are having on communities of color. This need-based scholarship is exclusively for Black, Latinx and Native American residents of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, or Staten Island who are enrolled in an accredited two-year community or four-year college anywhere in the United States. There is no age limit. Scholarship awards are up to $5,000. The Pierre and Tana Matisse Scholarships opened on December 10th; application deadline is January 28, 2021. Alessandra Carnielli, Matisse Foundation executive director said, “This year, the confluence of the health crisis and the national movement towards a more equitable society urged our Board to make an exceptional gift in support of NYC students seeking higher education.” Statistics show that once a student leaves college, most never return.
More than 175 scholarships will be awarded. The deadline for completed applications is Thursday, January 28, 2021. Go to www.uncf.org/local-offices/newyork and scroll down the page for the link and all details of how to apply to the Matisse Foundation Scholarships.
